Things I Haven’t Blogged About

22 Feb

I really had high hopes for this blog. I read so many blogs that I enjoy, and most of them are just regular people who started blogging for fun, and I figured, I can do that! What I didn’t really think through is the fact that to write a blog, you have to… write… blog posts. Which takes time. And thought. And usually pre-planning of some kind.

One of my biggest problems is photos. I like blogs that have photos – especially when blog posts require photos (like if you’re sharing a how-to or a recipe or whatever) but even when they don’t really require photos, posts are kind of boring without them. So I definitely want to include photos in my posts. And I even have a nice camera that takes great photos. But do you realize all the steps it takes to include photos in a blog post? First you have to find your camera, take a photo (or more like 10) of whatever you’re doing (and don’t forget to take photos during the process), then you have to get the photos off your camera onto your computer, possibly edit them, go through and pick out the good ones, upload them to the blog, insert them in a post – and you still haven’t even written anything yet! Aaagh. Too much.

So anyway, that pretty much sums up why I haven’t written in forever. But here are just a few things I’ve thought about writing about:

– New recipes I’ve cooked, including: Winter Vegetable Pasta with White Wine and ParmesanLemon Basil Ricotta Stuffed Shells in Champagne Sauce, and the Most Amazing Chocolate Chip Cookies Ever.

– Books I’ve read recently, including Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling, and A Million Miles in a Thousand Years: How I Learned to Live a Better Story by Donald Miller. Both awesome. You should read them.

– The little owl figurine I bought off Etsy and painted and displayed on my mantel. Go figure, I didn’t think to take any before or progress photos.

– My new favorite breakfast – the Green Monster Smoothie. Who knew spinach could be so delicious!! And the sweet new plastic cup I bought to hold said smoothies. It’s amazing.

– Our recent trip to Wyoming and Colorado – sadly, for Jon’s grandpa’s funeral. But it was a great time with family, with lots of good stories to share.

– Tons of Sebastian stories and photos. Seriously, I could make this blog all about that cat without much effort at all. For example, wouldn’t you like to hear about the time Sebastian’s hijinks resulted in the police being dispatched to our house? Yeah, thought so.

How’d you like that tease? Sorry for not writing about those things, and many more. Maybe I can find some motivation in the near future to do better. Lent resolution, perhaps? Speaking of which, Happy Ash Wednesday.

Blogging is a tough job for sure. The good news is you have great voice in your writing. The rest will follow. Good luck!

Hey there~! I was very entertained with your blog! Btw, I completely agree with you on the photos-needed-in-blogs. Here’s a faster way to do this:

    1. Bring your camera with you at ALL times of the day
    2. Take pictures ALL the time (What’s better than photographed memories?)
    3. Upload all photos on your computer in a lump sum (because God knows, it’s frustrating to do it more than once)
    4. As you are writing your blog, 9 chances out of 10 you WILL find a photo that will fit in your blog.

    Hopes this helps!!!
