Christmas Music – My Favorites

22 Dec

Um, first off, can you believe it’s only 3 days ’til Christmas? What?? Anyway, moving on…

I’ve been listening to a lot of Christmas music lately, of course. I mean there’s only one month a year that’s it’s allowed. Gotta maximize that time. So I figured I’d share some of my favorites (new and old).

My favorite new Christmas album this year is definitely Christmas by Michael Buble.

Christmas by Michael Buble

Michael Buble just has the best voice ever. He kills it on the traditional Christmas songs, while still making them a little more fresh and current. Love him. I also watched some of his Christmas special on TV the other night, and he’s just as amazing “live.” Makes me swoon really. (Side note – Justin Bieber tried to ruin Christmas on that TV special. Luckily Michael prevented it, just by being awesome. But seriously, the word “shorty” does not belong in a Christmas song, multiple times, sung by a baby-faced white boy who needs to pull his pants up. *Steps down off of soapbox.*)

Another new favorite:

A Very She & Him Christmas

A Very She & Him Christmas by She & Him (aka Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward). Love love love this album. Another great current take on the classics, and I just love Zooey and anything she does.

Of course, my all time favorite Christmas song is still All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey

Best. Christmas. Song. Ever. And I’ll probably never change my mind on that. That song has also been my ringtone since the day after Thanksgiving.

However, I was pretty surprised this year to hear two new versions of this song and not actually hate them. In fact, I kind of love both of them. I guess I just love that song so much, no one can ruin it.

Michael Bublé – All I Want For Christmas Is You

Dave Barnes – All I Want For Christmas Is You

Good work guys. 🙂  Dave Barnes’ Christmas album – Very Merry Christmas– is also really good.

Anyway, those are my faves this year. What about you? All time favorite? New current fave? Hate Christmas music? Well bah humbug!

Psst – if you’d like to buy any of the albums I mentioned, check out the Amazon links below. Full disclosure, they’re affiliate links. 🙂

Christmas Cards

21 Dec

All of our Christmas cards have finally been put in the mail, so I can now share them here. If you didn’t receive one in your mailbox, sorry! We kind of underestimated how many we’d need. Definitely going to bump up the order next year. But anyway, consider this your official Christmas card from us.

I ordered from Vistaprint again this year – it’s pretty easy, pretty cheap, and they turn out well.  Will probably do them again next year, although if I decide not to use an image, I may just go more traditional. Anyway, here they are:

We couldn’t leave Sebastian out. I decided there was no reason to include a picture of me and Jon this year – unlike last year, we didn’t have any special occasion to share.  Here’s last year’s card:

2011 Christmas Card

Ya know, ’cause we’d just gotten married 2 months earlier.

So did anyone else include a photo of their pet on this year’s Christmas card? Or is that just us crazies? Anyone else use Vistaprint? Other fun Christmas card ideas? Do share.

Oh yeah, and MERRY CHRISTMAS! Hope everyone has a beautiful holiday season. 🙂

Christmas Decorating

29 Nov

It’s officially Christmas time!!  I’m a stickler for holding out until after Thanksgiving to decorate/listen to Christmas music, so I was pretty excited to get started on all of that this weekend.  Here’s our beautiful tree:

Now we just have to keep an eye on Sebastian for the next month.  He was very sneaky last year…

Yes, that is the cat about 4 feet up IN the Christmas tree. Playing with an ornament. Oy. Let’s just hope he doesn’t try that stunt this year – he’s quite a bit bigger and I’m afraid he’ll bring the whole thing down. So far he’s just tried playing with the ornaments on the lowest branches. Right now his thing is still jumping up on the mantel, which is even more fun with all the garland and Christmas figures up there. So I’m sure he’ll manage to break something either way.

My other favorite thing now that it’s Christmas time and has gotten colder is the fireplace! It totally completes the Christmas-y feeling.

Hooray Christmas!

Happy Thanksgiving!

24 Nov

I hope everyone is enjoying this wonderful day with lots of food, family, friends, and football. 😉

Here’s a little holiday spirit from the internet – anyone see the Google doodle this week? It’s a super fun interactive turkey – you can change out his head gear and feathers with a click. There are probably a million combos.

Ok, as I was posting these I discovered that you can also change his feet/shoes:

And you can also click his wing and it spins through all the options and gives you a complete random result (like a slot machine):

How fun is that? Now, go make your own!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Friday Fun

11 Nov

Happy Friday!  I thought I’d share a little fun that I found in my email yesterday.  Anyone else a fan of the store World Market?  I LOVE that place.  I used to live really close to one, so sometimes when I was bored I would go window shopping there because they always have so many interesting things.  Inevitably I would come home with 5 things I didn’t know I needed.

World Market is also a great place for gifts, and with the holidays coming up, they have a lot of fun options for everyone on your list.  Not to mention this great deal I found in my email: 10% off your entire purchase through 11/24!  I am definitely going to take advantage of this baby on some of the items below (all under $30!).

What do you think?  See anything you like?

By the way, I have no affiliation whatsoever to World Market, and they didn’t pay or perk me to mention them.  I just really love that store!

Halloween 2011

7 Nov

Sadly, our neighborhood does not have many children of trick-or-treating age, so last year our doorbell did not ring once on Halloween night.  This year, I decided to go out to my parents’ house in the ‘burbs to help them hand out candy.  I figured they’d get masses of costumed kids begging for candy, just like I remember from my old days in the neighborhood.

The doorbell rang three times.  Three!  Granted, with Halloween being on a Monday, I’m sure that reduced the amount of kids who went out.  And there aren’t many young kids left on my parents’ street, so I guess that explains it (in fact most of the other neighbors didn’t even have any lights on – bah humbug).  Two of the groups of kids who did show up were junior high age or older, and one kid was actually talking on his cell phone as he walked up to the door!  Ridiculous.

Anyway, I found this little bit of post-Halloween humor on the internet today (here, originally from Jimmy Kimmel Live), and thought I’d share.  Pretty funny.

By the way, you might think that Halloween would be my favorite holiday, given all the orange involved, but you’d be wrong.  Halloween is great and all, but come on, how can it compete with Thanksgiving and Christmas??
